This meta-analysis analyzed 6 randomized controlled trials that compared open discectomy to minimally invasive discectomy for treatment of patients with lumbar radiculopathy, in a minimum follow up of one year. A total of 837 patients were identified from these 6 studies. The results from the analysis show that both open and minimally invasive discectomy is effective in the short and long-term improvement of leg pain, for patients suffering from lumbar radiculopathy.
