Obturator nerve block does not provide analgesic benefits in total hip arthroplasty under multimodal analgesic regimen: a randomized controlled trial.

Sixty patients undergoing total hip arthroplasty (THA) were randomized to receive a preoperative obturator nerve block (ONB) (n=30) or placebo block (n=30). Outcomes of interest included postoperative opioid consumption, pain, function and complications. There was no significant differences in opioid consumption in the postoperative period. There was no difference in pain scores with the exception of lower pain scores in the ONB group upon the arrival on the surgical ward. No differences in hemodynamic or opioid related adverse events were found between the two groups.
