2016 OARSI World Congress on Osteoarthritis: NO EFFECT OF ADDITIONAL SCREW FIXATION OF A CEMENTLESS, ALL-POLYETHYLENE PRESS-FIT SOCKET ON MIGRATION, WEAR AND CLINICAL OUTCOME: A 6.5 YEARS RANDOMIZED CONTROLLED RADIOSTEREOMETRIC ANALYSIS TRIAL

27 patients with primary hip osteoarthritis (OA) were followed up after 6.5 years of receiving acetabular cup implants with either additional screw stabilization with two 4.0mm screws of variable length, or no additional screw stabilization. The purpose of this follow-up study was to determine the impact of additional screw fixation of a cementless, all-polyethylene press-fit socket, compared to a socket without screw fixation on migration, wear and clinical outcomes in the long-term. Findings indicated that screw stabilization did not significantly impact cup migration and wear, the Harris Hip Score, or the Oxford Hip Score at a median of 6.5 years follow-up.
