2016 OARSI World Congress on Osteoarthritis: Knee joint distraction compared with total knee prosthesis: a randomized controlled trial (preliminary results)

60 patients with severe knee osteoarthritis were randomized to undergo treatment with either knee joint distraction or with a total knee prosthesis. The study was conducted in order to determine if knee joint distraction could be an effective alternative to a total knee prosthesis. The findings of this study indicated comparable WOMAC and pain scores between groups and was thus unable to determine an optimal treatment between the two techniques being investigated.
