Cost-effectiveness of nutritional intervention in elderly subjects after hip fracture. A randomized controlled trial

Epub 2012 May 26152 elderly patients with hip fractures were randomized to determine if nutrition supplementation and dietetic counseling was a cost-effective protocol to increase weight and quality adjusted life years (QALYs). Patients were followed for 6 months postsurgery. The cost-effectiveness with respect to weight gain was found to be feasible; however, the probability that the program was cost-effective for QALYs was relatively low.
