Combined Nutraceutical Supplementation and Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy Enhances Early Pain Reduction and Bone Callus Formation After Distal Radius Fracture: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

60 women with recent distal radius fractures were randomized to receive pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) therapy alone or PEMF therapy plus daily multimodal nutraceutical supplementation. Both groups received PEMF treatment for 30 days, while the supplementation group additionally received methylsulfonylmethane, magnesium, vitamins C, E, B2, B6, B12, D and K, silicon, resveratrol, zinc, copper, and folate. The primary outcome of interest was pain measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS). Secondary outcomes included biochemical markers of bone turnover, ultrasound-assessed callus formation, and complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS). Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 15 days, and 30 days. Overall, the results of the study revealed greater early pain improvement, higher bone alkaline phosphatase (BALP), and more advanced ultrasound-detected callus formation with combined treatment. These findings suggested that nutraceutical supplementation may provide an additional early clinical and biological benefit when added to PEMF therapy after distal radius fracture.
