Comparison of Intravenous versus Topical Tranexamic Acid in Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Prospective Randomized Study
J Arthroplasty. 2014 Aug;29(8):1528-3189 patients undergoing unilateral total knee arthroplasty were randomly assigned to receive either topical Tranexamic Acid or Intravenous Tranexamic Acid. This study aimed to compare the efficacies of each route of administration on the reduction of blood loss following primary total knee arthroplasty. Results suggested no statistical difference in the perioperative change in hemoglobin levels between the two groups, and no differences in the number of transfusions required.
