A Randomized, Parallel-Group, Open-Label Trial of Recombinant Human Erythropoietin vs Preoperative Autologous Donation in Primary Total Joint Arthroplasty
J Arthroplasty. 2007 Apr;22(3):325-33251 patients undergoing primary unilateral total knee or hip arthroplasty were randomly assigned to receive treatment of either erythropoietin (EPO) or preoperative autologous donation (PAD) to examine the outcomes of vigor scores and hand grip strength. Results showed that mean changes in the outcomes of handgrip and vigor from baseline were not significantly different between the PAD or EPO treatment.
