Clinical Relevance of Cement Leakage after Radiofrequency Kyphoplasty vs. Balloon Kyphoplasty: A Prospective Randomised Study

100 patients with thoracolumbar vertebral fracture were randomized to either radiofrequency kyphoplasty or balloon kyphoplasty. The purpose of this study was to compare the rate of cement leakage between the two groups. Postoperative leakage observed on imaging did not significantly differ between groups. Two cases, one in each group, demonstrated intravasal cement leakage into the vena cava inferior; these two incidents were the only clinically relevant cases of cement leakage reported.
