Fusion or Not for Degenerative Lumbar Spinal Stenosis: A Meta-Analysis and Systematic Review

OE Journal. 2019;7(3):50 Pain Physician. 2018 Jan;21(1):1-8Five randomized controlled trials were included in this meta-analysis and systematic review comparing decompression with and without fusion for the treatment of lumbar spinal stenosis. Pooled analyses of disability at 2 years postoperatively and reoperation rate demonstrated no significant differences between groups. Perioperative outcomes, including operative time, blood loss, and length of hospital stay, significantly favoured decompression alone compared to decompression plus fusion.
