Platelet concentrates in spine fusion: meta-analysis of union rates and complications in controlled trials
Eur Spine J. 2016 May;25(5):1474-8310 studies (6 RCTs) were included in this meta-analysis for the purpose of determining whether or not platelet concentrates are able to enhance union rates and reduce overall complications in patients undergoing fusion for degenerative and traumatic etiologies. Pooled results indicated that the use of platelet concentrates resulted in a significantly decreased union rate compared to control groups. Additionally, total complication rates and revision rates were comparable between groups.
