The role of flexor tenosynovectomy in the operative treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome
J Bone Joint Surg Am. 2002 Feb;84-A(2):221-587 patients (88 wrists) with idiopathic carpal tunnel syndrome were randomized to open carpal tunnel release with or without flexor tenosynovectomy. Patients were followed for at least 12 months and assessed postoperatively for symptom severity and function. Both groups significantly improved in terms of symptoms and function with no significant difference between the groups. There were no correlations between the gross and histological appearance of the tenosynovium and the symptoms or functional status.
