Bipolar sealer not superior to standard electrocautery in primary total hip arthroplasty: a meta-analysis
J Orthop Surg Res. 2014 Oct 10;9(1):92.5 randomized controlled trials (n=559) were included in this meta-analysis to determine whether or not bipolar sealer offers a benefit of standard electrocautery in primary total hip arthroplasty (THA). Outcomes of interest were blood loss, transfusion requirement and complication rate. Pooled analyses revealed no significant difference between groups for intraoperative blood loss, postoperative hemoglobin drop, transfusion rate and infection rate, nor secondary outcomes of hospital stay and operative time.
