Five-year results of a randomised controlled trial comparing mobile and fixed bearings in total knee replacement

OE Journal. 2013;1(7):10 Bone Joint J. 2013 Apr 1;95-B(4):486-92. doi: 10.1302/0301-620X.95B4.29454539 patients receiving a total knee arthroplasty were randomly divided into either a fixed bearings or mobile bearings group. Results indicated that there was no difference in the functionality (assessed using the Oxford Knee Score), quality of life (assessed using the Short-Form-12 and the EuroQoL 5D) or the total healthcare costs at 5 years between the two groups. The cost of the mobile bearing components was significantly higher than that of the fixed bearings components.
