Prospective randomized study of arthroscopic rotator cuff repair using an early versus delayed postoperative physical therapy protocol
J Shoulder Elbow Surg. 2012 Nov;21(11):1450-5. doi: 10.1016/j.jse.2012.01.025. Epub 2012 May 2.68 patients with full-thickness crescent-shaped tear of the supraspinatus that was repaired using a transosseous equivalent suture-bridge technique along with subacromial decompression were randomized to undergo passive elevation and rotation that began on postoperative day 2 or passive elevation and rotation that began on postoperative week 6. The results of the study indicate that early and delayed physical therapy results in similar outcomes, range of motion, and rotator cuff heal rates.
