Comparison of the efficacy of irrigation with epinephrine or tranexamic acid on visual clarity during arthroscopic rotator cuff repair: A double-blind, randomized-controlled study

One hundred patients with a full-thickness cuff tear and undergoing a full arthroscopic double-row repair surgery were randomized to receive irrigation fluid diluted with either tranexamic acid (TXA) or epinephrine (EPN) during surgery. The primary outcome was visual clarity measured using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS) by the surgeon which was evaluated immediately after surgery. Secondary outcomes included total surgery time, incidence of thrombotic/thromboembolic events, total mean arterial pressure (MAP), and total amount of irrigation fluid used. Results of this study revealed that no statistical significant differences were observed between the 2 groups for all outcomes (p>0.05).
