No clinical difference between fixed- and mobile-bearing cruciate-retaining total knee arthroplasty: a prospective randomized study

OE Journal. 2015;3(15):3 Knee Surg Sports Traumatol Arthrosc. 2015 Jun;23(6):1653-9.344 patients were randomized to receive either a fixed-bearing or mobile-bering implant in a total knee arthroplasty using a posterior cruciate-retaining design. The goal of this study was to determine if there were any significant differences in clinical outcome scores between the mobile-bearing and the fixed-bearing implants. Results found no significant difference for the range of motion, Oxford Knee Score, American Knee Society Score subscores, Short Form 12 subscores, and patella score 1 or 2 years postoperatively. There was a significantly higher rate of radiolucency in tibial component of the mobile-bearing group, but no difference was found in the femoral component.
