Is acromioplasty necessary in the setting of full-thickness rotator cuff tears? A systematic review

OE Journal. 2015;3(23):16 J Orthop Traumatol. 2015 Sep;16(3):167-74.4 RCTs reporting the outcomes of patients who underwent rotator cuff repair with or without partial acromioplasty with concomitant release of the coracoacromial (CA) ligament for the treatment of full-thickness rotator cuff tears were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. The purpose of this study was to reevaluate the role of acromioplasty in the surgical treatment of rotator cuff disease by analyzing its efficacy. The results of this study do not support the routine use of acromioplasty with CA ligament release for the treatment of full-thickness rotator cuff tears, as no differences in clinical outcomes were observed between patients treated with or without acromioplasty.
