Analgesic Effect of Low Dose Nefopam Hydrochloride after Arthroscopic Rotator Cuff Repair: A Randomized Controlled Trial

180 patients scheduled for arthroscopic rotator cuff repair were randomized either receive or not receive supplemental nefopam for analgesia. Half of the patients in either group also received an interscalene block. Patients were assessed primarily for pain severity immediately after surgery, and at 30 minutes, 12 hours, 24 hours, and 48 hours after surgery. Overall, no significant differences between groups were observed in pain scores at any time point. In patients not administered an ISB, there were also no significant differences between groups in pain scores. In patients administered an ISB, the only significant difference between groups observed was in pain at 24 hours after surgery.
