Injection of Dexamethasone Versus Placebo for Lateral Elbow Pain: A Prospective, Double-Blind, Randomized Clinical Trial
J Hand Surg Am. 2008 Jul-Aug;33(6):909-1964 patients with lateral elbow pain were randomly assigned to receive dexamethasone or a placebo injection, in order to evaluate the efficacy of dexamethasone. Assessments over a 6 month period indicated that corticosteroid injections for lateral elbow pain did not affect the clinical course or outcomes. It was also determined that the perceived disability associated with lateral elbow pain that affected a subset of patients was correlated with depression.
