Arch Phys Med Rehabil. 2017 Aug;98(8):1678-1692

Y Wu YK Tu WC Tsai TY Yu

Fourteen randomized controlled trials were included in this network meta-analysis on the use of six different non-operative modalities - high-energy focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy, low-energy focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy, radial extracorporeal shockwave therapy, transcutaneous electrical nerve stimulation, therapeutic ultrasound, and ultrasound-guided needling - compared to control intervention for patients with chronic calcific tendinitis of the shoulder. Network meta-analysis indicated that the modalities which demonstrated a significantly greater reduction in pain and calcific deposit resolution relative to control were ultrasound-guided needling, radial extracorporeal shockwave therapy, and high-energy focused extracorporeal shockwave therapy.
