Effect of Negative Pressure Wound Therapy vs Standard Wound Management on 12-Month Disability Among Adults With Severe Open Fracture of the Lower Limb: The WOLLF Randomized Clinical Trial

460 patients with a Gustilo-Anderson type II-III open fracture of the lower limb were randomized to postoperative wound management with either negative pressure wound therapy or standard dressings. Patients were followed up for patient-reported disability and quality of life measures over 12 months, as well as incidences of infection and wound complications over 30 days. Results demonstrated no significant differences between groups in Disability Rating Index scores, ED-5D-3L scores, SF-12 scores, the incidence of deep surgical site infection, or incidences of other wound complications.
