One hundred forty patients with chronic whiplash-associated disorders were randomized to receive neck-specific exercise with internet support (NSEIT) and four physiotherapist sessions or supervised neck-specific exercise (NSE) delivered twice a week for 12 weeks. The outcomes of interest were cervical function measured by active cervical range of motion (ACROM), cranio-cervical flexion test (CCFT) performance, ventral and dorsal neck muscle endurance (NME), and neck pain intensity. Outcomes were assessed at baseline, 3 months, and 15 months. Overall, the results of the study revealed significant improvements over time in ACROM, NME, and neck pain in both groups, with no significant differences between groups. These findings suggest that NSEIT may provide similar functional benefits to NSE for chronic whiplash-associated disorders.
