Navigated Versus Conventional Total Knee Arthroplasty: A Systematic Review and Meta-analysis of Prospective Randomized Controlled Trials.
J Orthop . 2023 Dec 6:50:99-110.Seventeen studies including 2,201 patients undergoing total knee arthroplasty were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing navigated (N-TKA) vs. conventional (C-TKA) methods. Pooled outcomes of interest included radiographic alignment, all-cause revision, aseptic revision, and functional outcomes such as Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS) and Western Ontario and McMaster Universities Osteoarthritis Index (WOMAC). Navigated TKA was significantly superior in achieving normal coronal and sagittal tibial component alignment but showed no significant difference in revision rates or functional outcomes compared to conventional TKA. The findings suggest that navigated TKA improves radiographic outcomes but has comparable short-term clinical and functional outcomes.
