Myofascial Release Versus Control for Mechanical Neck Pain: A Meta-Analysis .
Myofascial release for the treatment of pain and dysfunction in patients with chronic mechanical neck pain: Systematic review and meta-analysis of randomised controlled trials.
Clin Rehabil . 2023 Apr;37(4):478-493.In this meta-analysis, thirteen randomized controlled trials comparing myofascial release to a control group were included. Outcomes of interest included pain on a Visual Analog Scale (VAS), range of motion (ROM; flexion, extension, cervical rotation, lateral flexion), Pain Pressure Thresholds (PPT) of the trapezius and suboccipital muscles, and Neck Disability Index (NDI). Subgroup analyses of the left and right limbs were also assessed. Pain, ROM in flexion, extension, cervical rotation, lateral flexion, and NDI scores were similar between the two groups. However, the overall trapezius and occipital PPT scores favored myofascial release.
