Glucosamine but not ibuprofen alters cartilage turnover in osteoarthritis patients in response to physical training
Osteoarthritis Cartilage. 2010 Jan;18(1):34-40. Epub 2009 Jul 1536 adult patients (16M 20F) with bilateral tibiofemoral knee osteoarthritis, enrolled in a strength training program for both legs of 12 week duration, were randomized to receive glucosamine, ibuprofen, or placebo. 12 weeks of muscle strength training, in combination with glucosamine, reduced the serum cartilage oligomeric matrix protein level in patients with bilateral tibiofemoral knee osteoarthritis, suggesting greater cartilage turnover.
