Multimodal Nonopioid Pain Protocol Following Arthroscopic Shoulder Labral Surgery .
Multimodal nonopioid pain protocol provides equivalent pain control versus opioids following arthroscopic shoulder labral surgery: a prospective randomized controlled trial.
J Shoulder Elbow Surg . 2021 Nov;30(11):2445-2454.Fourty eight patients undergoing arthroscopic shoulder surgery for labral pathologies were randomized to receive a standard opioid pain protocol (n=24) or a multimodal nonopioid pain protocol (n=24) for postoperative pain. The primary outcome of interest was postoperative pain scores as measured by a visual analogue scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes of interest included the Patient-Reported Outcomes Measurement Information System - Pain Interference score (PROMIS-PI) and adverse events. No significant differences in VAS or PROMIS-PI scores were found at any time point postoperatively between the two groups. The rate of adverse events were similar between groups.
