Pain management by periarticular multimodal drug injection after anterior cruciate ligament reconstruction: a randomized, controlled study

100 patients undergoing single bundle ACL reconstruction were randomized to 5 different groups to compare the effectiveness of multimodal drug cocktail (MDC) and ropivacaine injections in different areas. The results during the first postoperative day and night indicate that periarticular and intra- articular + periarticular MDC injections provided a significant reduction in pain when compared to all other groups. These two treatments are an effective way to reduce postoperative pain following ACL reconstruction in a cost effective manner.
