Mulligan Joint Mobilization & Trunk Stabilization Vs Isometric Knee Strengthening for Knee OA .
Efficacy of Mulligan joint mobilizations and trunk stabilization exercises versus isometric knee strengthening in the management of knee osteoarthritis: a randomized controlled trial.
BMC Sports Sci Med Rehabil . 2024 May 7;16(1):105.Sixty patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive trunk stabilization exercises (TSE; n=20), Mulligan joint mobilization (MWM; n=20), or isometric knee strengthening exercises (KSE; n=20). The primary outcome of interest was the improvement in the Knee Injury and Osteoarthritis Outcome Score (KOOS). Secondary outcomes included pain severity measured by Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), performance on the 6-Minute Walk Test (6MWT), and the 11-stair climb test (SCT). Outcomes were assessed at baseline, the third week, and the sixth week. Overall, the results of the study revealed that the TSE group had the most significant improvements across all outcome measures, particularly in reducing pain and improving functional capacity. The study suggests that trunk stabilization exercises are a more effective intervention for managing knee osteoarthritis symptoms compared to MWM and KSE.
