Effectiveness of a mucolythic agent as a local adjuvant in revision lumbar spine surgery

OE Journal. 2013;1(4):50 Eur Spine J. 2008 Dec;17(12):1752-6. Epub 2008 Oct 730 patients undergoing revision surgical procedures of the lumbar spine were randomized to a mucolythic agent or normal saline, as an adjuvant to ease tissue dissection during peridural fibrosis dissection. One week postoperative results demonstrated that the use of the mucolythic agent, MESNA, reduced surgical time, intra-operative blood loss and decreased the difficulty of the surgical dissection, measured by a blinded surgeon.
