Comparative analysis of modified posterior mini-open surgery versus standard open posterior approach for adolescent idiopathic scoliosis correction: a prospective study.

Sixty patients with Lenke type 1 adolescent idiopathic scoliosis were randomized to receive either a modified posterior mini-open surgery (MS; n=30) or a standard open posterior approach (OS; n=30). The primary outcome was coronal deformity correction. Secondary outcomes included intraoperative blood loss, length of hospital stay, postoperative pain (VAS), scar satisfaction, and complications. Outcomes were assessed up to 2 years postoperatively. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both techniques achieved comparable correction, with the MS group experiencing significantly less blood loss, shorter hospital stays, lower pain scores, and better scar satisfaction. These findings suggest that the MS approach provides similar corrective outcomes to OS while reducing perioperative morbidity and improving cosmetic results.
