Effectiveness of mobilization with movement on conditioned pain modulation, mechanical hyperalgesia, and pain intensity in adults with chronic low back pain: A randomized controlled trial.

Fifty-eight patients with chronic low back pain were randomized to receive mobilization with movement (n=29) or sham mobilization (n=29). The primary outcome was conditioned pain modulation. Secondary outcomes included mechanical hyperalgesia, movement-related pain intensity, and blinding adequacy. Outcomes were assessed immediately after a single intervention session. Overall, the results of the study revealed no statistically significant differences between groups for conditioned pain modulation, mechanical hyperalgesia, or pain intensity, with only small effect sizes. Mobilization with movement was not superior to sham in the short term, suggesting that a single session may not meaningfully influence pain modulation in chronic low back pain.
