Development of a mobile application to improve exercise accuracy and quality of life in knee osteoarthritis patients: a randomized controlled trial.

89 patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to receive an exercise program delivered through a mobile Android application (n=44) or a handout (n=45). The primary outcome of interest was the patient's ability to perform the 3 exercises. Secondary outcomes of interest included clinical outcomes (range of motion; knee injury and osteoarthritis outcome score [KOOS]; Knee society score [KSS]). Outcomes were assessed after 4 weeks of treatment. More patients in the mobile application group performed the exercises correctly vs. the handout group. Moreover, patient quality of life and satisfaction after treatment was significantly higher in the mobile application group.
