Is obesity a contraindication for minimal invasive total knee replacement? A prospective randomized control trial

100 Obese patients (age 45-85) with primary tricompartmental knee osteoarthritis were randomized to a standard TKR group or a minimal invasive surgery TKR group to assess the overall effectiveness of minimal invasive surgery on the obese adult population. Assessment using the Knee society function and pain scores demonstrated improved early clinical outcome over the first 3 months postoperatively in the MIS group. No differences regarding tibiofemoral alignment, or postoperative complications between the groups were found.
