Which is more invasive-mini versus standard incisions in total hip arthroplasty?
Int Orthop. 2009 Dec;33(6):1543-7. Epub 2009 Jan 16.62 patients undergoing primary unilateral cementless total hip replacement (THR) were randomized to either receive surgery using a minimal-incision method or a standard incision method. The purpose of this trial was to compare the invasiveness of these two methods. The results of this trial indicated that there were no differences seen between these groups in terms of surgical invasive measures; however, the minimal-incision method resulted in longer operative times.
