A randomised trial comparing a short and a standard-length metaphyseal engaging cementless femoral stem using radiostereometric analysis
Bone Joint J. 2015 May;97-B(5):595-602.43 patients were randomized to receive either a short metaphyseal femoral stem (SMF; Smith & Nephew) or a standard-length femoral stem (Synergy; Smith & Nephew) in cementless total hip arthroplasty. The goal of this study was to determine migration and clinical outcomes of the short-stem, in comparison to the established standard-length component. Results of this study indicated no significant differences in subsidence, component rotation, or clinical outcome between the two groups..
