Superior patient satisfaction in medial pivot as compared to posterior stabilized total knee arthroplasty: a prospective randomized study.

Fifty three patients undergoing bilateral total knee arthroplasty (TKA) for end-stage arthritis were randomized to receive a medial pivot (MP, n=53) TKA in one knee and a posterior stabilized (PS, n=53) TKA in the other knee. Outcomes of interest including the Knee Society Score (KSS) Expectation and Satisfaction subscores and the Oxford Knee Score. Radiographic and kinematic assessments were also performed. The MP side demonstrated significantly improved KSS satisfaction and expectation subscores at final follow-up when compared to the PS side. No differences in the Oxford Knee Score were noted between groups. No differences in range of motion, flexion deformity or radiographic outcomes were noted between groups.
