Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction with polyester suture augmentation
Medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction using semitendinosus tendons: polyester suture augmentation versus nonaugmentation
Am J Sports Med. 2012 Jun;40(6):1365-74. Epub 2012 Mar 28100 adult patients with recurrent patellar instability were randomized to either receive medial patellofemoral ligament reconstruction (MPFLR), using semitendinosus tendons with polyester suture augmentation, or MPFLR - using semitendinosus tendons without augmentation. The results indicate that MPFLR with polyester suture augmentation provides improved outcomes (no deterioration in corrected patellar position, improved stability and functional abilities, and reduced recurrence) in comparison to MPFLR without the augmentation.
