Immediate Changes in Widespread Pressure Pain Sensitivity, Neck Pain, and Cervical Range of Motion After Cervical or Thoracic Thrust Manipulation in Patients With Bilateral Chronic Mechanical Neck Pain: A Randomized Clinical Trial
J Orthop Sports Phys Ther. 2012 Sep;42(9):806-14. doi: 10.2519/jospt.2012.4151. Epub 2012 Jun 18.90 patients with bilateral chronic mechanical neck pain were randomized to undergo cervical thrust manipulation to the right, cervical thrust manipulation to the left, or thoracic thrust manipulation to determine their effects on pressure pain thresholds, neck pain intensity and cervical range of motion. The results of the study indicated that cervical thrust manipulation and thoracic thrust manipulation produced similar changes in pain pressure thresholds, neck pain intensity, and cervical spine range of motion; however, these changes did not surpass the minimal detectable change values.
