Manual traction is effective in alleviating lumbosacral spine pain: Evidence from a randomized controlled trial.

Sixty patients with lumbosacral spine pain were randomized to receive either manual traction (n=30) or conventional physiotherapy (n=30). The primary outcome of interest was pain reduction as measured by the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS). Secondary outcomes included improvements in the Straight Leg Raise (SLR) test, Modified Bragard’s test, and Kernig’s test. Outcomes were assessed before and after six treatment sessions over two weeks. Overall, the results of the study revealed significant improvements in pain reduction and test angles favoring the manual traction group. The findings suggest that manual traction is a more effective treatment for alleviating lumbosacral spine pain with radicular symptoms than conventional physiotherapy.
