Sixty-six patients with hip osteoarthritis were randomized to receive either Maitland passive joint mobilization (n=33) or self-rehabilitation (n=33). The primary outcome of interest was pain intensity measured by the Numerical Rating Scale. Secondary outcomes included passive hip range of motion, muscle strength, walking speed, and quality of life (SF-36). Outcomes were assessed at baseline, immediately post-intervention, and at 3-month follow-up. Overall, the results of the study revealed that both interventions led to significant improvements in pain, mobility, muscle strength, walking speed, and quality of life over time, with no statistically significant differences between groups. This suggests that both hands-on and home-based rehabilitation strategies can effectively manage hip osteoarthritis in low-resource settings.
