Sports Health . 2023 Sep-Oct;15(5):727-735.11 randomized controlled trials (809 patients) comparing the effects of manual therapy (MT) plus exercise versus exercise alone in patients with rotator cuff-related shoulder pain were included in this systematic review and meta-analysis. Outcomes of interest included pain with activity and at rest using any subjective scale, function was measured using a shoulder-specific questionnaire, and Shoulder Pain and Disability Index (SPADI) pain score. Outcomes were assessed in the short term (≤ 3 months) and long term (≥ 6 months). All outcomes were similar between the two groups except for pain at rest in the short term which favoured the MT+exercise group.
