Effects of manual lymphatic drainage on total knee replacement: a systematic review and meta-analysis of randomized controlled trials.
BMC Musculoskelet Disord . 2024 Jan 2;25(1):30.Seven randomized controlled trials (RCTs) including 278 patients who underwent total knee replacement were analyzed in this systematic review and meta-analysis comparing manual lymphatic drainage (MLD) vs. non-MLD therapies. Pooled outcomes of interest included knee joint range of motion, knee joint pain, and lower limb edema. The results indicated no significant differences in range of motion, pain reduction, or edema between MLD and non-MLD groups. The findings suggest that MLD does not provide significant benefits over other therapies in the rehabilitation of patients following total knee replacement.
