A systematic review with meta-analysis of posterior interbody fusion versus posterolateral fusion in lumbar spondylolisthesis

This systematic review/ meta-analysis was comprised of four RCTs and five comparative observational studies (520 patients), and was conducted to compare the efficacy of posterior lumbar interbody fusion (PLIF) versus posterolateral fusion (PLF) for the treatment of lumbar spondylolisthesis. Low-/moderate-quality evidence suggested favourable outcomes with PLIF compared to PLF in terms of clinical satisfaction and function, fusion rates, and reduction in postoperative pain. No significant differences were found between groups in terms of complication rate, blood loss, and operating time.
