Lumbar spinal fusion patients demands to the primary health sector: evaluation of three rehabilitation protocols. A prospective randomized study

90 patients undergoing lumbar spinal fusion were randomised to receive one of three postoperative rehabilitation protocols. The three protocols were video instruction, a back cafe protocol, or exercise therapy. The primary outcome was the patient demand on the primary health care sector (costs). The results indicated that rehabilitation programs with biopsychosocial considerations (e.g. back cafe' intervention) lower demands to primary health sector in regards to costs.
