Lumbar Bracing for Chronic Low Back Pain: A Randomized Controlled Trial.

Fifty nine patients with uncomplicated chronic back pain were randomized to receive a semirigid back brace (n=25) in addition to standard care or standard care alone (n=34). The outcomes of interest were the Pain Disability Questionnaire (PDQ), Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System, The Numerical rating scale for pain and the EuroQoL 5-Dimension (EQ-5D). Interim analysis demonstrated that the bracing group had significantly worse PDQ, Patient-Reported Outcome Measurement Information System and EQ-5D scores compared to control. No difference in pain scores were noted between groups. The study was halted due to lack of benefit.
