Evaluating the Effect of Intravenous Acetaminophen in Multimodal Analgesia After Total Hip Arthroplasty: A Randomized Controlled Trial

97 patients scheduled for total hip arthroplasty and managed with a multimodal analgesia regimen were randomized to either receive or not received intravenous acetaminophen over the first 24 hours postoperatively. Primary purpose of this study was to examine and compare pain scores between groups, as well as assess opioid consumption and incidence of postoperative nausea and vomiting. These outcomes were assessed over the first 24 hours after surgery. Results demonstrated significantly lower pain scores and postoperative opioid consumption over the first 24 hours, while incidences of postoperative nausea and vomiting did not significantly differ between groups.
