Efficacy of low-level laser therapy applied at acupuncture points in knee osteoarthritis: a randomised double-blind comparative trial

OE Journal. 2014;2(19):27 Physiotherapy. 2014 Sep;100(3):242-849 patients with knee osteoarthritis were randomized to evaluate the efficacy of Active Low-Level Laser Therapy (LLLT) against a placebo over 6 months. Patients were assessed using VAS, the Saudi Knee Function Scale (SKFS), and active range of motion (ROM). The evidence presented in this trial demonstrated that LLLT was associated with significantly superior VAS pain compared to placebo at 6 weeks and 6 months after treatment, along with similarly superior results in the Saudi Knee Function Scale (SKFS) scores at the last treatment session and at 6 months, while active ROM was better at 6 months for the active group.
