Effect of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound combined with aerobic exercise on patients with knee osteoarthritis: A randomized controlled study.

Ninety patients with knee osteoarthritis (OA) were randomized to low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) (n=30), aerobic exercise (AE) (n=30), or LIPUS+AE (n=30). The primary outcome was gait (stride speed, stride length, total walking distance); secondary outcomes were pain (NRS) and function (Lequesne index). Outcomes were assessed at baseline and 12 weeks. Overall, the results revealed that LIPUS+AE produced larger gains in gait than either monotherapy and greater reductions in Lequesne index than both groups and in NRS compared with LIPUS. These findings suggest that combining LIPUS with supervised AE enhances functional recovery beyond either treatment alone over 12 weeks.
