Low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS) in fresh clavicle fractures: a multi-centre double blind randomised controlled trial

Epub 2008 Jul 25.120 patients who were treated non-operatively for a diaphyseal fracture of the clavicle were randomized to undergo 28 days of either an active or sham treatment of low-intensity pulsed ultrasound (LIPUS), to determine whether LIPUS has an effect on clinical outcomes in this population. Results indicated that LIPUS had no clinical effect on patients\\\' subjective perceptions of fracture healing, painkiller use, pain, or in the incidence of adverse events. Mean time to resume household, professional and sporting activities was also similar between the active and placebo treatment groups.
